The Mayors race is celebrating its 50th year of raising monies for local charities. The candidate, who raises the most monies, beginning on June 1st until the annual July 4th parade, is named Honorary Mayor.

Tammy Holmberg, owner of the on Lumsden, is also turning 50 this June and will be running a fundraising campaign for the Honorary Mayors Race. She is being sponsored by her fellow Rotarians at The Brandon South Rotary Club.

Anyone who knows Tammy knows she has a love for children, and she has chosen three local charities to benefit the children in the Brandon area. The Dream Factory, which grants dreams to critically and chronically ill children. The monies raised for the Brandon chapter will be used to grant the wishes of the children in the Greater Brandon area. The YMCA, which promotes healthy kids and families has three locations in the Greater Brandon area (Fishhawk, Campo, & North Brandon) and the monies raised will be used for children’s scholarships. The Center Place for Fine Arts, which offers live theater and art classes for both children and adults. The monies raised will sponsor children’s theater for the 2008 school year.

“Everyone who knows me knows that I have a true passion for children and with Chick-fil-A being so family-friendly, I knew that this would be a big success for children’s charities,” said Holmberg. “This year, I decided this would be the perfect time to run for Brandon Honorary Mayor.”

Holmberg has set her sights on a goal of raising $50,000 in the month of June. Planned events include a Kickoff dinner at AllStars Italian American Grill in FishHawk Ranch, a traditional luau complete with Polynesian show at Exotic Plumeria on Saturday, June 7 and a fashion show on Sunday, June 22. If you are interested in lending a helping hand or making a donation please contact Holmberg at 813-727-0749.

The Brandon Honorary Mayor’s race is a fundraising effort established by The President’s Roundtable which coordinates the annual Brandon Fourth of July Parade, now in its 50th year. The winner of this year’s race will be announced at the parade. The Honorary Mayor will represent his or her community at events and as a dignitary throughout the year. The Honorary Mayor for 2007 is George May, a local financial planner. All monies must be raised between June 1 and July 4 of each year with 80 percent of funds raised going to designated charities, 10 percent to the sponsoring organization and 10 percent to the Presidents’ Roundtable.
